Summary:Oregon is believed to have made improper use of a Houston-based recruiting service.
The National Collegiate Association has formally notified the University of Oregon that it will be investigating the football program for possible rules violations regarding the use of a recruiting service in the recruitment of highly touted Texas high school running back Lache Seastrunk. The University of Oregon paid Willie Lyles of Complete Scouting Services in Houston, Texas $25,000.00 for information used in the recruitment of Seastrunk. The NCAA is investigating the possibility that Lyles influenced Seastrunk to sign with the Ducks even though Seastrunk transfered to Baylor this fall. It appears that nationally ranked programs and millions of dollars in revenue are pushing college football programs closer to crossing the lines of propriety in amateur athletics.
